Ardclough lost out in controversial circumstances away to Celbridge in Division 1 of the SHL on Tuesday night (30th April).

There was fierce confusion at the final whistle, with the match initially being called a draw, and the scoreboard being incorrect. But Celbridge were awarded the points after referee Killian Jones consulted his notes.

    Ardclough’s Martin Fitzgerald

Ardclough started the first half very well, dominating most of the play and going four points up within ten minutes – using Martin Fitzgerald at centre-back as their launching pad.

Celbridge began to tag-on scores through Sam White, and White had the sides level when he crashed the ball to the net from the penalty spot.

Paul Fitzgerald and Tony Spain were Ardclough’s leading attacking threats on the night and they increased the ‘Clough’s tally approaching half-time.

But not to be outdone Celbridge were given a boost approaching the break when Ronan Byrne’s low drive found the net and then White added two further frees to give Celbridge a 2-09 to 0-09 half-time lead.

Ardclough’s Niall Coulston rises highest for the dropping ball.

Ardclough again scored four quick points on the resumption only for White to hit back with some more fine scores.

The game was played at a hectic pace at times, with plenty of hearty challenges coming in as possession swapped from one half to the other.

Ardclough were dealt a blow with ten minutes to go when Colm Buggy was sent off for a second yellow but entering the final five minutes Ardclough were three points up, thanks to a Martin Fitzgerald point, only for a Marcus Kinsella goal to level matters, bundling in his rebounded effort.
