    St. Edwards 3-12
    Ardclough 3-06

Three second half goals helped Rathcoffey overturn a half-time deficit as Ardclough lose for the first time in the U-16 Spring Football League.

St Edwards started very well and were a point up within seconds, through a Eoin Leonard point. The hosts pushed on and after ten minutes their dominance of possession got them three more points, all from half-forward Adam Toman.

The ‘Clough’s were struggling to get the ball up to their forwards – and to keep it there. But midway through the half the momentum began to swing.

Ardclough were still scoreless at this juncture but were starting to get a foothold at centre-field. Midfielder Arron Kelly got their first score after a galloping run up the middle before firing over.

Straight after the kick-out Ardclough were in possession again and Donal Delahunt, redeployed from his original full-back position, swung over another point.

    Ardclough’s Dylan Burke

Ardclough’s attacks were becoming more frequent and dangerous now and after a prolonged attack Daniel Keegan was fouled in the square by St. Edwards keeper Cian O’Hagan. Dylan Burke coolly found the net, low under the keeper and with ten minutes to go in the half the ‘Clough’s were a point up.

Adam McEvoy equalised for Edwards soon after, but they were unlucky not to have a goal as well when Ardclough keeper Nolan tipped Joey Toman’s top-corner-bound effort over the bar.

A brilliant point near the sideline from Delahunt kept Ardclough scoring and two minutes later Dylan Burke got another as Ardclough lead by one at the break.

St. Edwards got their form back over the break, finding the net just after the restart. A Neil Campbell shot was kept out by a combination of keeper and post, only for Conor Harris to follow up to score in the 3rd minute.

Minutes later Ardclough hit back in style. First a well worked Jack Bambrick shot was parried over the bar by the keeper for a point.

Ardclough then counter-attacked immediately from the kickout, Dylan Burke’s shot clipped the upright but fell kindly to Bambrick who slid the ball neatly to the net.

They were then left off the hook at the otherend when Edward’s full-forward Joey Toman shot effort on goal wide from close-range.

Both sides exchanged points soon after but with ten minutes to go Ardclough’s hopes were dealt a hefty blow, conceding 1-01 in a minute. Brian Travers, raised a white flag for Edwards before Harris hammered home his 2nd goal.

The away side were struggling upfront but were still creating chances. But Conor Harris got another point, with an over-the-shoulder effort, as Edwards kicked on.

With 5 minutes to go Ardclough seemed to get a lifeline with a goal from Ronan Tallon, his 30 metre driven strike lobbing the keeper.

But in the closing minutes of the half Edwards extended their lead. Two pointed frees, one from either midfielder Shaun Flynn and Brian Travers, were followed by a goal from Adam Toman and a further point by Flynn saw Edwards end with a six point win.
