Ardclough U-13 Footballers are Division 6 champions after a 14 point win over Ballyteague in the Final on Saturday morning (5th October) at Hawkfield.

Ardclough and Ballyteague qualified for the final with strong group performances and good semi-final wins and it was Ballyteague that won their earlier meeting, in a high scoring encounter.

The final started slowly with both sides taking time to settle but 15 minutes in a Conor Walsh point settled Ardclough.

Two goals followed, the first from Aaron Murphy, followed by Drew Costello’s effort saw the ‘Clough’s into a 2-01 to 0-02 lead.

Ardclough’s defence was well tested in the closing stages of the second half with keeper Kevin O’Brien making a number of great saves. He was helped out also by the defending of Eoin Walsh and Joshua Morgan as they kept the Ballyteague forwards to four further points before the break.

Conor Walsh tagged on a late point to give Ardclough a two point lead at half-time, Ardclough 2-02, Balyteague 0-06.

Shortly after the restart Ballyteague grabbed the lead with an early goal, to put them in the lead for the first time. But Ardclough rose to the challenge and lifted their game.

Firstly Ardclough keeper O’Brien again came to the rescue with two fantastic saves to keep them in the game, they then went on the offence in a big way.

Drew Costello netting three further goals in ten minutes which really raised the tempo of the match and the voices of their supporters.

Another goal, this time by Pat Taaffe, and a Fionn Kelly point gave Ardclough real momentum and with ten minutes to go they lead by 5-03 to 1-06.

Ballyteague did get a goal late on the Ardclough defence got on top from then on.

Great defensive performances from Seán Whelan, Ben Culliton  Eimhin O Neill and Jack Mulhare kept Ballyteague scoreless for the rest of the match.

Late points from Conor Walsh, Pat Taaffe, Daniel Ecock and Fionn Kelly sealed the big win for the ‘Clough’s.
