Clubs executive secretary report

In his report to members, Club Secretary Billy Cullen took time to thank all involved in the daily running of the behind the scenes jobs throughout the club.

From the bar staff and cleaners, to Mick Kelly, Anthony Burke and Mick Brogan for their work with the pitch. Sheila Maguire for washing the club jerseys, Tony Maguire for looking after the dressing rooms and Tom Maguire for organising events within the clubhouse and sports hall.

The work of Seán McGarr in promoting and coaching GAA in Ardclough primary school was also acknowledged as well as the work of Phyllis Finneran and Tony Carton in the entertainment and catering side within the club.

Thanks also was given to the club’s main sponsor Rory Larkin of RFL Steel and everyone who supported the race night, club BBQ and the other events throughout the year.

The long standing secretary also wished, on behalf of the Club’s Executive Committee, to offer sincere sympathy to all who suffered bereavement during the year, especially to the Moore family on the death of Derry Moore, a former player with the club. And also to the Molloy and Higgins families on the deaths of Nan Molloy and Lena Higgins. Both ladies made huge contributions to Ardclough GAA club and community for a long time.

We will miss them and all the other great people who have passed on and who helped the club on the road to where we are today.

Finally he thanked anyone who was unintentionally omitted from the acknowledgements and its great the number of people who help out in the club in so many ways, something which is extremely appreciated by the executive.

Hurling

Hurling Club Secretary John Walsh thanked the hurling committee for their work, along with the managers, coaches, selectors and mentors from all levels. Especially that of new coach/manager Brian Lawlor at adult level which has seen the Seniors reach the league final and the championship semi-final and the intermediates get to the championship final.

Walsh also commended the work done Noel Burke, who continues to work tirelessly in his role as Chairman.

Ardclough fielded teams at ages U-8 to U-13 all ages inclusive in the Spring and Autumn leagues and at U-14, U-15 and U-16 level as part of the new amalgamation with Confey, called Ard Ceann Fuaid.

The amalgamation proved to be an instant success with three pieces of silverware being won, the U-14 Féile B Shield against Naas 2, the U-14 Div.2 Shield Final against Celbridge 2 and the U-16 Div.2 Shield Final beating St. Laurence’s.

The use being made of the hurling wall and all-weather facility was also commended. A year after its opening it has been a big success and has resulted in increases in both attendances and skill levels, as has the work done and enthusiasm shown by Andrew Whelan, along with the many parents, mentors and coaches.

Football

Football Club Secretary Tony Carton thanked the committee, the players and the management of PJ Cummins (Manager), Ger Cullen and Tony Maguire, and also Billy Cullen and Larry Graham who assisted with the adult team in what was a difficult year on the field of play.

The Secretary also thanked the work of Larry Graham, Seán McGarr and Pat Corrigan for their work with the minor team and the over twenty coaches and mentors who looked after the club’s teams from nursery level, to U-8 to U-16 inclusive.

Carton also commended the GAA Cúl Camp that was held in August in the club as a big success that was attended by over 120 young boys and girls who were coached in both hurling and football.

Two cups were won by the clubs underage footballers. The U-14’s won the Féile ‘D’ division, beating Castlemitchel in the Final in Conleth’s Park. While the U-16’s won the Division 5 League Final against Ballykelly at Hawkfield. The U-12’s also reached the ‘C’ Cup Final in June, only to narrowly lose out to Celbridge.

Out-going Underage Football Secretary Bernie Scanlon also congratulated all the Ardclough players that attended Kildare development squad training, especially Niall Delahunt who played for Kildare in their recent win over Dublin in the U-16 Leinster Football Final.
