Clogherinkoe 1-19 Ardclough 1-05

Niall Coulston

Clogherinkoe booked their place in the Junior Football Championship Semi-Finals with a comprehensive win over Ardclough at Kilcock GAA.

Having one their opening two games Clogherinkoe were in a very favourable position to make progress to the Semi-Finals. But they needed to equal or better Milltown’s result to guarantee that.

Ardclough’s chances of making the knock-out stages were alive, but slim, going into this game after their defeat to Castlemitchel just six days earlier.

After Cian McMonagle gave Clogherinkoe an early lead, Ardclough fought back to take the lead with points from Andrew Conway and Colm Maguire.

Brian Graven and Dean Hanley got further scores for Clogherinkoe but after ten minutes a Colm Maguire had Ardclough hanging onto their coat tails with the game level.

Clogherinkoe finally earned their buffer then Thomas Reilly’s shot found the back of the Ardclough net after thirteen minutes.

Both sides then exchanged points, McMonagle for Clogherinkoe and Colm Maguire for Ardclough.

Clogherinkoe then pushed on and totted up a big score before the break.

Points from Neil Bergin, Thomas Reilly, Seán McEvoy, McMonagle and Mark Nolan helped Clogherinkoe into a ten point lead at half-time.

Three early points in the second half from Nolan (2) and Daniel Grehan stretched Clogherinkoe’s lead as they set about cementing their place in the final final of the JFC.

Ardclough’s Andrew Conway hit back with a score of his own but there was no let up from Clogherinkoe.

After two further scores for Clogherinkoe, Ardclough did manage one of their best attacking plays of the game, when ended in a goal.

Some good work by full-forward Niall Coulston, and a one-two with Aidan Griffin, ended in Coulston crashing the ball to the roof of the net.

A run of scores in the final third of the half pushed Clogherinkoe further ahead however. Points from Grehan, McMonagle and Ciaran Graven gave Clogherinkoe a fourteen point win, the same as Milltown’s result over Rathcoffey, insuring Clogherinkoe’s Semi-Final place.
