International Women’s Day
Last Saturday was International Women’s Day – a day to celebrate the achievements of women. We are incredibly lucky to have so many amazing women in our club, some who are no longer with us but that we remember every day. From our players , our coaches , our committees , our members, our parents – we as a club are blessed with extraordinary women who contribute massively to the running of our club and the successes of our club – every day. What a great International Women’s Day for us to be looking forward to – our first adult Straffard LGFA team – years in the making we finally will see them take to the field.

If you are interested in joining the Heatlthy Clubs team please contact secretary.ardclough.kildare@gaa.ie . Our next step is our community mapping exercise where we look at other groups in our community that we can work with.

It’s been a busy week already, our St Edwards U16 teams are travelling around Kildare – Friday saw our U16 D6 head to Rathangan and our D4 team were off to Castlemitchell on Saturday afternoon – a mixed weekend with a win and a loss. Our Minor Edwards team took to field in Ardclough on Wednesday v Milltown on the back of a win over Abbeyrangers in their last game – unfortunately not their night with a 4 point loss 1-9 to 1-13 – we go again !
In hurling our minor hurlers got their league campaign underway on Sunday as the sun came out in Moorefield, a 2-4 to 1-18 win v Droichead Nua got the league off to a good start. Meanwhile back at home our U14 hurling teams were hosting Naas early Sunday and Confey later in the afternoon. Naas came away with the win on the day as did Confey but a great show of skills from our young teams.
And some of our U13 camogs had a challenge match on Sunday playing Cappagh and Straffan, great to get a game in before their league starts on Monday
COMING UP
Our most important members are back this weekend (hopefully pitches will be ok !) as our Go Games are back !!! Our U7 / U9 / U11 footballers are out on Saturday and our U8 / U10 hurlers are out Sunday .
Senior Football League – Back this Friday – Round 1 – POSTPONED
We were all set for a night of football as our senior football league was due to get underway this evening at home , the game is now postponed due to unplayable pitch. We will update the fixtures when we have a rescheduled time.
Please check all fixtures this weekend – it’s likely that more games will be rescheduled as pitches around the county are waterlogged after rain yesterday. Huge thanks to Liz for checking the pitches and for all the bookings at the moment as the start of the season is always the busiest until we settle into our routine nights.
County Teams
More county news for our hurlers ! Well done to Ronan and Tim being named on the U20 Kildare Hurling Panel
Kildare
Hurling
What a fantastic weekend for Ardclough and Kildare hurling! Tim and Sean named on the team to play Carlow… Tim starting … our fantastic juvenile player Charlie Dunne who was team mascot and Division 1B secured for next year. Nothing like settling in to watch the Sunday Game after a day like that ! They have made a dream come true for so many young hurlers who dreamed of walking up the steps of the Hogan Stand to pick up the Liam McCarthy .. nothing is impossible if you work hard and believe !
Before the game !
After the win ! Well done Sean , Tim and Charlie
